I made a mood board of inspirations and started a Mind map for the finer details of the contents of the FMP. I’ve decided I’m going to make a documentary parody (mockumentary) about superheroes in the style of something like Parks and Recreations or the Office. Need to watch a few episodes of Life’s too Short and a movie called Super.
27/02/19
I finished the mind map, figured out exactly what’s actually going to be in the video (themes, costumes, characters), and started on the pitch. Was told I should watch something called POPSTAR.
01/03/19
I started a production scheduled, but have only written about the research I will be doing for the second part of the FMP. Still need to do the actual production section but can only do that once I pin down the schedules of my actors.
04/03/19
I finished my research on the practitioners of this kind of comedy, like Andy Samberg and Ricky Gervais and finished adding to the proposal. I need to start properly siting my sources.
08/03/19
I finished up the general production schedule (week by week) and made a proper bibliography, even if it is a bit limited because I didn’t really use a lot of the information I found online.
11/03/19
Did the proposal, got sighed off and moved onto the research, but still need to add a little more to the proposal to make it more detailed and get a better final mark. need to designate some time for that
16/03/19
Need to do more practitioner research, will have to do it at home. Sent out a survey, waiting for results. Set up podcast to get competition research for Wednesday.
20/03/19
Did the podcast for competition research, collected some results from survey but still need more. Finished research on my budget and technical requirements but had to use time that originally going to be used for more practitioner research.
22/03/19
Collected all the results from my survey and did a short analysis of the demographic but I didn’t really do a good job at spreading it around so I didn’t get many results, also added more research to the budget, mostly equipment that I’m gonna be using for free from the LRC. Uploaded podcast but it didn’t initially work right, so I’ll have to do something about that. Wrote a evaluation that only properly focused on practitioner research, need to improve that.
Honestly,I didn’t do nearly as much work as I should have on the research, I only have one practitioner right now, the survey was a flop and I repeated myself a lot in each different section of research.
26/03/19
Got a working version of the podcast up and passed the research deadline, need to add more general detail though. Started pitch in a prezi, finished the concept and started inspirations, need to get the entire production schedule figured out as soon as possible.
29/03
Not a very productive week, barely got the pitch to a passable stage before having to present it, and still really need to add a lot more to it (more detail about the demographic and the inspirations). Nothing else really happened other than some brief communication with an actor.
02/04
Started the script, need to properly format it though, also need to try and find one more actor to play a psychiatrist, probably Patrick. Also printed off all the documents I’ll need to fill out over the break.
05/04
Over the past week, I have been writing the script, booking out equipment, wrangling actors into rolls that they are suitable for without actual being able to gather them all together for a proper team meeting and constructing the right costume for the lead (a silly super hero outfit) from what I could make or buy. Ultimately, it was a productive week that didn’t exactly follow the detailed schedule I had laid out in my pitch.
In the coming break I will need to completely finish my script in the proper format, film all my test shots and complete all the adjacent paperwork. get a location released for the days of filming.
23/04/19
I did not get anywhere near enough work done over the half term, entirely due to personal reasons. All I really did was finish the script, do some of the location recces, start the story board and finish making the costume. that still leaves me with most of a storyboard, the shot list, the props list and a few other miscellaneous things to do in less than a week. Will definitely need to stay behind after every class to catch up.
25/04/19
Got all my test shots filmed and edited, accidentally filmed someone while trying to figure out how to do a steady tracking shot without a fig-rig but then used the footage to practice blaring a person so they can’t be recognised. Gotten most of the pre-prod done but not much of it is up on the blog yet.
29/04/19
Started filming over to weekend, didn’t go very well. Tie mic and shotgun mic didn’t work, so I had to get both those replaced in the middle of a shoot on Friday, weather was really windy on Saturday so most of the audio isn’t useable, and the main actor canceled on Sunday so I didn’t get any footage then and had to reschedule the whole thing for next weekend. Looked at all the footage today and tried to figure out how to cancel out wind in audio; no luck yet.
03/05/19
Since I didn’t have much footage, I didn’t bother staring the edit and just court up with any missing blog work. I’ve done everything that needs to be there but likely won’t get a very high grade for it if I don’t add more (practitioners, proposal, pitch, add more sources)
07/05/19
Got all the footage I’m gonna be able to get (Actors are very busy next 2 weeks), not all of it’s great; will need to edit as much as possible (audacity to remove wind sounds), need to work over free time and set aside time to get a presentation and feedback.
10/05/19
Almost finished the editing (done a ruff cut) but still need to add in all the fine details (mostly sounds) and come up with a feedback sheet. Got set back a bit by having to struggle with Audacity to get rid of all the wind sound because it doesn’t really work on Mac, but I figured it all out eventually.
17/05/19
Finished the final cut and uploaded it, the editing went faster after I fixed all the audio because then all I had to do was properly line it all up with the footage and balance it with music. Also screened it to people and got some good feedback for the evaluation. Desperately need to go back to the research and fill in the blanks before next Friday.
22/05/19
Done a lot on the evaluation but still need to get it finished before Friday so I can focus on the catch I need to do on the research. I’ve covered the first few questions on the brief and talked mostly about the things that didn’t work very well for me, still need to mention what when right.
To do:
Documentary theory – research mockumentary (look at papers on this) – Bill Nichols – modes
What makes us laugh? Freud ?
Research Delusional Disorder – get facts straight
Watch interviews with mental health experts – learn how that talk/terminology
Learn how to pixelate faces in final cut
Cut felt into hero emblems
